Many of us practice a ritual of cleaning the house, the car, or the closet each spring. But how much energy do we focus on cleaning our own body, mind, and spirit?
Mother nature does her thing each spring. She cleanses the earth after a long winter, she melts away the snow, brings out the sun to warm the earth, and creates new growth. It is only human nature that we try and mimic this revitalizing energy we are feeling in the natural world around us.
Think about clearing the "cobwebs" of your life. Not the actual cobwebs you have been staring at in the corner of your bathroom for the past three months, although you may want to give those a little love... I'm talking about the stagnant energy in your life, whatever that may be, that has been collecting dust for a while now. That thing you have been keeping in the corner, perhaps saying, "I'll get to that later," or, "I'll get to that when I (feel stronger, learn more, have more time... you fill in the blank)." Well, according to mother nature, the time is now. It's time to do some spring cleaning!
Now, these cobwebs can be lurking in any corner of your life; your physical activity, your health, your career, your relationships, home environment etc. Perhaps the idea of getting a gym membership has been lingering in the back of your mind, but you keep saying you are too tired, or don't have time, or when the time comes you decide to clean your entire house and get everything done EXCEPT going to the gym? Or maybe you know that your diet needs some cleaning up in order to make space for nourishing foods that will renew and revitalize you, but something is holding you back. These thoughts and beliefs are the cobwebs that are bringing our goals to a halt; the stagnant energy that is keeping us from living to our fullest potential.
So, what is that thing you have hidden away all winter? All year? How can you do some cleaning to create space for you to thrive?
For myself, it was clearing up my schedule. I was a hot mess just last week, overworking
with a never ending list of tasks. I was trying to juggle three jobs full time and beyond. You can imagine I started feeling a little (very) overwhelmed. I am starting a business here... how can I start a business if there is no space for it in my life? I made the decision to cut back my work hours at my other job in order to create space for my business to grow. In doing so, I got a similar feeling to when I clean out my closet... but even BETTER. I felt free to give more energy to my passion and my gifts. I felt an openness, a clear space ready to be filled with something amazing that I can now create.
What was holding me back from doing this earlier? Fear. Fear of not making enough money to pay rent, fear of actually putting my time and my whole heart into what I truly love: helping others make these healthy lifestyle changes so they too can thrive. Sometimes (always) I coach myself... but now it's your turn:
Answer these questions for yourself:
1. What aspect of your life needs the most cleaning this spring?
2. What is that one thing you have been holding on to, but haven't gotten around to yet?
3. What has been holding you back? What are you afraid of?
4. What would it feel like if you accomplished that one thing?
5. What steps can you take to clean it up and create space for you to accomplish this?
The time is now. Get ready to grow.
