Prioritize and Rise

As you embark on your wellness journey, it can be easy to quickly become overwhelmed... You know what I mean:

"So... your saying I have to meditate, do yoga, journal, pray, exercise, cook, eat healthy and slowly, drink water, drink tea, take my supplements, go to work all day and try to enjoy it, get enough sleep, keep the house clean and toxin free, make my bed, go outside, call my friends, visit my parents, laugh, find love... etc." I think you get the point.

There are endless things we can do for our health. So many wonderful tools out there that can be used, but almost TOO many sometimes - am I right??

I have had clients who come to me with anxiety around being their best self. Heck, I've had it myself - looking on social media of all the "perfect" going on can be a trigger for sure (even though we only see the good stuff right??) It can be scary making changes to begin with, but if we are just adding to the already L E N G T H Y to-do list, this can cause some serious stress... Which is the opposite of what we are working towards.

SO, how can we move past this? How can we still work towards our health and wellness goals without the pressure of having to do ALL of the things?

The answer: WE DON'T DO EVERYTHING. We can't!! We are only human here...

What we do: PRIORITIZE.

We decide what our top values are, what is most important to us - those big ticket items that are non-negotiable, and we make these a priority over the other stuff. If we don't have the space, then we create it. We let go of what does not serve us to make space for what nourishes our SOUL.

My guitar lessons have become a non-negotiable for me. Playing guitar feeds my creativity, my love for music, and brings me joy! All important to my goal of being healthy and happy.

Try this exercise to narrow the gap between how you spend your time and reaching your most valuable goals:

1. Make a list of your weekly activities.

Example:

- 3 Yoga classes

- 1 Guitar lesson

- Make 3 home-cooked meals

- Laundry

- Journal

- Meditate

- Watch Netflix

- Cleaning

- Studying

2. Underline the non-negotiable activities that will help you reach your most important goals.

Example:

- 1 Yoga class

- 1 Guitar lesson

- Practice guitar twice

- Make 3 home-cooked meals

- Laundry

- Journal daily

- Meditate daily

- Watch Netflix

- Cleaning

- Studying

- Go to work

- Marketing for business

3. List your top three goals for THIS year and list the activities that will help you reach those goals underneath them.

Example:

1. Learn how to play guitar.

- 1 guitar lesson

- Practice guitar twice

2. Grow my business.

- Go to work

- Studying

- Marketing for business

3. Be healthy and happy.

- 1 Yoga class

- 1 Dance class

- Make 3 home-cooked meals

- Meditate daily

Now look at the other items that are not underlined. Ask yourself, is it going to hinder your health and happiness to let go of these things? Are they absolutely necessary? Can you let them go?

If not, if they really need to get done... can you delegate the task to someone else? For example, ask a family member to help out or even hire a maid to come clean once a week - there is no shame in asking for help.

Remember that everyone is different and unique in what works best for them and their personal wellness goals. A tool that works really well for one person, can be useless to someone else! Just because it's an option, does not mean it's a requirement.

We can only do the best that we possibly can, and honor ourselves for that.

The more you focus in on what is truly important to YOU, the closer you become to achieving your health and wellness goals - to being your absolute best version of yourself. Now imagine what that person can do - EPIC STUFF!

Now, take a deep breath in, let it go. YOU GOT THIS.

Keep smiling,

Katie O.
